About This Lesson
Students investigate local civil rights history, including how Black residents fought housing discrimination in Jersey City, how Chinese Americans challenged the Chinese Exclusion Act and segregation in nearby Chinatowns, and how Filipino Americans organized against workplace discrimination. Students conduct oral histories or research local archives to uncover untold stories from their own community.
