About this Community

Working people are facing rising costs at every turn—from health care and housing to child care, credit cards, and medical bills. For many families, it feels harder each month to keep up, even while doing everything right. Educators, nurses, public employees, and other workers are not immune to these pressures, and the impact is showing up in daily life.

The Fight for Affordability community brings together practical resources, short explainer videos, and trusted guidance to help people navigate these challenges. Built in partnership with AFT Share My Lesson, this space is designed to make complex financial systems easier to understand and easier to push back against.

Right now, this community features resources focused on medical debt and health care costs, including insurance denials, surprise billing, and patient protections. Additional topics—such as credit card debt, student debt, and other affordability challenges—will be added as the campaign continues to grow, so check back often.

Here, you can explore resources, ask questions, and share experiences through the community discussion board. The goal is simple: to help working people understand their rights, find clear answers, and access tools that support financial stability and dignity.

This community is part of AFT’s Fight for Affordability campaign, grounded in listening to members and responding with real solutions. You’re not on your own—and you don’t have to navigate these systems alone.
